ATEX (Europe)


Since July 1st, 2003, every piece of equipment for hazardous areas sold within the European Union must be ATEX certified, as requested by European regulations.

LCIE's scope of intervention within the framework of Directive 94/9/EC ATEX

LCIE is Notified along the European Commission (identification number 0081) for the application of all modules of this Directive to electrical and mechanical apparatus, protection systems, components, safety control and regulation devices.

LCIE is accredited by COFRAC, ( Laboratory Section testing N° 1-0311) for testing of equipment used in hazardous atmospheres.

Scope of services

Within the scope of certification, LCIE assesses all types of equipment; electrical, electronic and mechanical, with the following main being the key areas:

ATEX Directive 94/9/EC

ATEX Services offered by LCIE

LCIE can offer mandatory as well as voluntary certification, in particular for:
  • EC type examination (Annex III)
  • Unit verification (Annex IX)
  • Keeping of technical documentation as mentioned in Annex VIII of ATEX Directive
  • Assessment of the manufacturer's quality system (Annexes IV and VII)
  • Product verification (Annex V)
  • Conformity to type assessment (Annex VI)
