Bureau Veritas is the main supplier of RF (Radio Frequency) Emissions measurement services to Hutchison 3G in the UK.

The RF Emissions measurement project is centred on a two-stage process:

Stage One: Once a mobile telecoms site is legally acquired, Bureau Veritas engineers visit the site to measure the ambient levels of RF emissions, which enables a base line to be set.

Stage Two: Once the site has been developed and power is supplied to the Node B, Bureau Veritas engineers re-visit the site and measure the levels of RF emissions utilising a robust testing methodology developed to test a dynamic 3rd Generation (3G) network.

The purpose of the re-visit is to measure whether the RF emissions from the Hutchison 3G site has raised the background levels of the RF above internationally recognised guidelines, providing an independent verification of the RF emission levels taken at a certain place and time.

Bureau Veritas has been working with Hutchison 3G since November 2001, and to date has carried out over 4000 surveys. At times the throughput of surveys being over 500 a month.

The project is scheduled to continue for three years - it is envisaged that the project will encompass over 10 000 sites, entailing 20 000 surveys in total.
