September 19, 2007 – Fontenay-aux-Roses, France - With the recent adoption of the EMC Directive (2004/108/EC) in July 2007, and following numerous requests from Industry, Bureau Veritas LCIE, a leading EMC Assessment organization and Notified Body under the New EMC Directive, has responded to these calls and is hosting a free educational one-hour webinar in October. The webinar (online seminar) will provide delegates with the opportunity to understand the major changes under the scope, standards, requirements, timescales, available conformity routes, as well as providing step by step compliance guidance and an overview of what is required with Technical Documentation.

The “new” Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive came into force in July 2007 and repeals EMC Directive 89/336/EEC in July 2009. The one hour webinar will provide answers to the many questions commonly asked by industry, such as:

  • Is my equipment under the scope of the New Directive?
  • When does the new Directive come into force?
  • What are the major differences between the two Directives and what are the risks?
  • How can my organization comply with and benefit from this Directive?
  • What do I do if I am still manufacturing products after the 2009 repeal date?

Jean-Pierre Barbier, Senior EMC Expert at Bureau Veritas LCIE and Presenter of the Webinar comments, “The new Directive brings with it many changes, increased market surveillance for one and the now voluntary use of Notified Bodies. Another major development is the need to truly understand and appreciate EMC phenomena as they apply to your products. The compiling of technical documentation including a detailed EMC Assessment of the applicable phenomena must be completed in all cases when declaring under the new EMC Directive, highlighting the need to understand EMC and maybe partner with an organization experienced in EMC. The use of a Notified Body can also be used to assist in this instant where a unique product or technology is used. Our webinar will provide clear guidelines on best practice compliance guidance to help you comply with and benefit from this new Directive.”

Manufacturers, Importers, Distributors and Retailers who are interested in attending the webinar (in French) being held on 4th October 2007 at 15:00 France time, can register for our webinar for free to learn more
